The Aquatics Department has several certified American Red Cross Instructors on staff and we routinely offer courses for staff, members, and non-members from the community. Certain topics have several different levels of certification, so be sure to chose the correct one. All courses follow American Red Cross standards.

First Aid/CPR/AED


Training meets OSHA Guidelines for First Aid Programs and combines lecture, interactive video demonstrations featuring emergency scenarios that are likely to occur in a variety of environments and hands-on training to teach participants lifesaving skills.

  • First Aid: Participants learn to recognize and care for a variety of first aid emergencies, such as burns, cuts and scrapes, sudden illnesses, head, neck and back injuries, and heat and cold emergencies.
  • CPR Adult: Participants learn how to perform CPR and care for breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults
  • CPR Child and Infant: Participants learn how to prevent, recognize and respond to cardiac and breathing emergencies in infants and children under 12
  • AED: Participants learn how to use automatic external defibrillators

Length of class will vary dependent on selection of topics.
2 year certification.

Lifeguarding

 

ARC Lifeguards

 

If you’re 15 or older and looking for a great summer job or challenging career that’s in demand, the Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start. Through videos, group discussion and hands-on practice, you’ll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid, and CPR/AED.


Prerequisites: Must be at least 15 years old and pass certain swimming requirements
Course length: 31 hours; 2 year CPR/AED certification and 3 year Lifeguarding certification.


CPR/AED For Professional Rescuers (for Lifeguards)


ARC Pro Rescuers


Designed for individuals with a duty to respond to emergencies, this program combines discussions, video and hands-on training. Real-life rescue scenarios reinforce decision-making skills. Free quarterly refreshers. Course covers how to respond to breathing and cardiac emergencies in adults, children and infants until more advanced medical personnel take over. Topics include:

  • Primary assessment
  • Ventilations (incl. use of CPR breathing barriers and use of BVMs)
  • Choking (incl. conscious and unconscious)
  • CPR (incl. one- and two-rescuer)
  • AED
  • Optional training in use of epinephrine auto-injectors and asthma inhalers available

Course length: Approximately 7 hours.

2-year certification.
