Active Older Adults

At the Middlesex YMCA, older adults are some of our most loyal members. Seniors have a chance to keep active and grow in spirit, mind and body. Physical activity is essential in quality of life and independence. Regular exercise provides many practical benefits, including reducing the risk of diseases and conditions such as diabetes, osteoporosis, coronary artery disease, and high blood pressure. Stronger muscles, better balance and coordination, and higher energy levels all work together to maintain or improve basic living skills.

Programs include group exercise classes, social events, low impact water exercise, community education and more. Click here to see our latest brochure on the program.

SilverSneakers is a fun, energizing program that helps older adults take greater control of their health by encouraging physical activity and offering social events.

Unlock the door to greater independence and a healthier life with SilverSneakers.  Health plans around the country offer the award-winning program to people who are eligible for Medicare or to group retirees.  SilverSneakers provides a Middlesex YMCA membership with these great benefits:

  • Access to conditioning classes, exercise equipment, pool, sauna and other available amenities

  • Customized SilverSneakers classes designed exclusively for older adults who want to improve their strength, flexibility, balance and endurance

  • A specially trained Fitness staff member to introduce you to SilverSneakers and help you get started

"We didn’t get frost last night, but probably will tonight, so that will be the end of the annuals for this year :(

With all the rain this year the annuals have been gorgeous."

"Our wonderful Garden Committee has been working hard to keep the Barbara Briggs Memorial Garden looking beautiful! We hope everyone enjoys the garden! A huge THANKS to all of you for the annuals the volunteers bought and planted. The garden looks GREAT! The deutzia bushes along the back look spectacular! They clearly loved the pruning given to them last year. A little TLC goes long way! And I know no one intended the pansies to be there until mid-June, but they still seem very happy!
