Lifeguarding: Class Description
If you’re 15 or older and looking for a great part time job or challenging career that’s in demand, the American Red Cross Lifeguarding program is the place to start. Through videos, group discussion, and hands-on practice, you’ll learn patron rescue and surveillance skills, first aid, and CPR/AED for Professional Rescuers.
To participate in the lifeguarding course, each participant must pass the Pre-Course Session of the class.
This includes completing:
300 Yard Swim - incorporating the front crawl and breaststroke
Tread water for 2 minutes without support, only using the legs
Timed event – swimming a distance of 20 yards and retrieving a 10-pound object from the depth of 7-10 feet, returning to starting point swimming on back with object out of water in less than 1 minute 40 seconds.
Verification of Age – participants will be asked to bring in an ID that identifies that they are at least 15 years of age
If the participant fails to complete the Pre-Course session, the Y will keep a $100 processing fee. The remainder will be credited back to the participant.
Upon successful completion of the Pre-course Session, the course schedule has been revised in order to include an Online Blended Learning Program; where students will be able to complete assignments in the comfort of their home, as well as participate in Facility training's to obtain the hands-on experience of the skills that they need. Students will be given all necessary information to set up online account and directions on how to complete the online assignments.
If a participant fails any portion of the Lifeguard Class, there will be no refund. If a participant fails to complete the class due to medical reasons, a partial refund will be given with a doctors note.
