YOUTH BASKETBALL LEAGUE
Here at the Middlesex YMCA we strive to provide new opportunities for teens and pre-teens to engage in activities with peers and positive role models. By bringing them into the Y, we are able to facilitate these activities and provide information about upcoming events and other programs designed to support our teens such as “S.T.O.R.M.Y Nights, Y.N.O.T Chill, and Andre’s Allstars.”
For the past two years, the Y has offered a Youth Basketball League. This league runs on Monday evenings from 5:30-7:00pm and provides 8 consecutive weeks of basketball for our youth ages 10-13.
We understand that most programs similar to this one can come at a high cost, preventing many individuals from participating. Here at the YMCA we require a minimal fee of $15 to participate in 8 weeks of play. Our goal is to run this program consistently so that teens can prepare and plan to participate throughout the year. The cost covers the expenses for team shirts, trophies and future teen programming.
While our main goal is to provide an exciting opportunity for our teens, it is also a way to get the community involved. We have had some success in getting donations from local businesses to sponsor teams. This allows a greater percentage of the fee to be put towards future teen programming. Every team is coached by parent volunteers. Our referees are made up of YMCA Staff volunteering after-hours, and many parents and Y members sit on the sidelines supporting our youth. If you or anyone you know is interested in coaching a team, being a referee or serving in any way, you can contact Ben Silliman at firstname.lastname@example.org.
