Summer 2021 Update 5/27:

The YMCA continues to be committed to running a Summer Enrichment Camp this summer for families in the community. Last summer, the children were able to spend time with friends and enjoy being kids. We look forward to an even better summer in 2021!

We have worked closely with the Office of Early Childhood to develop policies and procedures to keep children safe while still ensuring that your child has fun!

Online Registration for Summer Enrichment 2022 will begin in April 2022.

Click HERE for step by step directions.

Some Important Information for Parents for Summer Enrichment 2021:

  • Children will be cohorted into groups and will not intermingle with children from other cohorts.

  • Children and Staff will be required to wear masks while inside the YMCA but may remove while playing outdoors.

  • We will not be taking any field trips this summer that allows us to travel by bus. We are, however, planning some walking field trips and special presentations with museums, local businesses, and art studios.

  • We will not be able to offer before and after care for the Summer Enrichment Program.

  • The hours of camp will be 8:00am - 5:30pm Monday-Friday.

  • We will be able to offer free swim two times per week for each group (most likely Tuesday and Thursdays).

During this ever-changing situation, we ask that parents be aware that information is constantly changing and we will update the website as we receive information and guidance from the Office of Early Childhood, the Local Health Department, and CDC.

Summer Enrichment Camp 2022 will run from

June 20th through August 12th. Please note these dates are subject to change based on the school calendar and snow dates.

Week   1 (6/14-6/18): Superhero Academy

Up in the sky, is it a bird? Is it a plane?  No, it’s your child enrolled in our super hero academy at the Y! Have your boy or girl wonder join us for this week of camp to learn what it means to be a super hero. Not only will they be able to design their own costume, practice their poses, play fun super hero themed games, they’ll have lessons on what character values are needed to be the best super hero they can be. While the super heroes in the comics are fictional, they are great role models for our children to follow. They will also be able to meet some of our local heroes through Zoom or a walking field trip.

Week   2 (6/21-6/25): Undersea Odyssey

“The sea is the embodiment of a supernatural and wonderful existence” Jules Verne, Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea. Take a deep dive at the Y for our Undersea Odyssey week where we will jump into a wide variety of ocean themed mindfulness, crafts, games, and so much more. We’ll sail ocean to ocean to learn about the wonderful creatures that dazzled the likes of Mr. Verne many years ago. On Friday, we will be able to see some of those creatures we’ll learn about as well as get to speak with an expert from Mystic Aquarium to answer any questions that may be bubbling up in your child’s brain!

Week   3 (6/28-7/2): Hometown Glory

Just like Dorothy said, “There’s no place like home” and that’s the theme of this week! We’ll learn all about what our marvelous town has to offer and delve into its’ history, too. We’ll walk in the shoes of our ancestors by taking walking field trips along Main Street with pictures of what these places looked like in the past to compare them to now. For our special event we will have one of our very own born and raised in Middletown staff leading a yoga class at Harbor Park.

Week   4 (7/5-7/9): STEM-tastic Fun!

Don’t worry about getting blinded by science when you join our STEM-tastic fun week, we’ll make sure to wear our safety goggles! This week will feature activities on Science, Technology, Engineering, Math, and Fun! We’ll be doing many different experiments to enhance our student’s critical thinking skills. You don’t need the scientific method to know that signing your kid for camp will be an exhilarating, educational experience!

Week   5 (7/12-7/16): Abroad Adventures

Up, up, and away we go to travel the world! Join us this week to learn all about other countries, cultures, and customs right in the comfort of our Y camp. Your child can stamp off these countries in their passport each time they complete one of our themed mindfulness, crafts, or games. By the end of this week your child will be as well traveled as Marco Polo!

Week   6 (7/19-7/23): Extraterrestrial Expedition

Have your child go to infinity and beyond during our Extraterrestrial Expedition week! With activities focused on our campers intergalactic interests, they are sure to have a blast! We’ll do some active games with our little astronauts, connect our crafts to constellations, and learn what it means to take space with some mindfulness exercises. We will also be going on a virtual field trip to the NASA Goddard Space Flight Center in Maryland, where none of our campers have gone before!

Week   7 (7/26-7/30): It's Lit!

“It’s Lit”-erature week at camp! Campers will be focusing on the steps needed to make, draw, and create a story of their very own. We’ll be running a book club which will take place outside for our campers to enjoy the fresh air and fiction! In addition to creating our own stories we’ll jump into the mind of Bill Thomson, a local illustrator and author, through a virtual presentation. When your camper comes home and you ask how their day was, they’re sure to say “It was Lit!”.

Week   8 (8/2-8/6): Summer Olympics

We can’t go to Tokyo, but we can hold our very own Summer Olympics here at camp! Let the fanfare roar as we welcome our Olympians into our week of Y summer games like pool noodle javelin, kush-ball shot put, potato sack races and so much more. We’ll learn about the spirit of healthy competition, the nations that are competing, and even create our own classroom country all while practicing these events for our Friday Olympic Game Day!

Week   9 (8/9-8/13): Amazing Artists

Let’s Van Gough explore the amazing world of Art! This week of Summer Enrichment Camp will focus heavily on different artists, styles, and media used to make some of the most famous works of art in the world. We will also feature how art can be a method to express yourself when words are hard to come by. We can’t wait to see what your little Picassos will make!

Week 10 (8/16-8/20): Zany Zoologists

Lions, Tigers, and Bears, oh my! Let’s go wild this week at our Zany Zoologist camp that will feature games, crafts, and more about the animals in our world. Our zoologists in training will get an elephant’s weight of information to share with you at home! Our special event for the week will be a virtual encounter with an animal and their expert from Beardsley Zoo.

Week 11 (8/23-8/27): Games Galore

Let the games begin! This week we will get back to some good, old fashion fun with creative COVID friendly ways to play board games we all know and love. While there’s nothing wrong with the traditional games that every kids grows up with, we will be teaching new games to our kids to play at family gatherings or even just on a game night at home. There’s no winners or losers when you’re having fun! Our special guest will be from Table Top Gaming Center to talk about the history of games and new educational ones at their center.
